Our flight to Amsterdam was uneventful. We didn’t get much sleep on the plan due to
the fact that every couple of hours we were being fed. We had an 8 hour layover so we decided to
leave the airport and go into the city to take a canal tour. It was a nice sunny day. We were amazed at the number of bicycles we
saw. The city is a cycler’s paradise!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER
23RD
Our flight was early, and we arrived at Jomo Kenyatta Airport at 5:30 a.m. (even though it was Kenya Airlines,
Mitch!) Aaron and Erica Kenny were there
to meet us and although we were extremely tired, we were very happy to see
them. On our drive out of the airport we
saw a giraffe and some gazelles and so we knew we were in Africa!
Aaron and Erica knew we needed coffee so we went straight to
Java House for breakfast. We enjoyed eating outside, getting caught up with Aaron
and Erica and seeing Isbis birds.
We then went and checked in to The140, our guest
house. It is a beautiful gated house
located in the Runda neighbourhood right next door to the Kenny’s home.
We freshened up, (NO sleeping allowed!), had an orientation
meeting with Aaron and Erica, and then went to the Village Market for
lunch. After that it was off to the
Masai Market where we had fun bartering for local handcrafts. Julie, John , Nick and Lila were able to buy
hand carved giraffes for less than 1000 shillings!
After a tasty dinner at the Kenny home, we had a very early
night. Off to bed by 8 p.m.
